Puerto Rico

Puerto Rican Flag

I walk as an heir to a Promised Land with waterfalls that spill over a cobblestone past. Cradled by the ocean with fists full of sand, I lay at the threshold of our history, and wrap myself in her flag.

Borinquen, land of the Valiant and Noble Lord, her Taino excellence runs through my blood. I ramble through her forests and ascend her mountains; I sit under her palm trees and splash in her fountains.

Patria verdadera, true homeland, El Grito de Lares fell to colonial hands. They tried to conquer something legendary, they tried to adopt what they stole. They couldn't erase her history, they couldn't annihilate her soul.

One God, one sun, and one cobblestone Path, cradled by the ocean with fists full of sand. One star, one drum, and one troublesome past, I lay at the gravesites of our ancestors and wrap myself in her flag....kt
